On the Patagonia O Circuit Guided Trek

Food on the Trail

We’re often asked about the food available while trekking in Patagonia, and for good reason. Nutrition is a key part of any trekking adventure, and enjoying a hearty meal after a long day in the mountains is one of the true highlights of the experience.

You’ll be burning a significant number of calories each day, so fuelling your body properly is essential, not only for energy and endurance but also for your recovery and overall enjoyment. Meals on the O Circuit are simple, satisfying, and designed to keep you going through long days on the trail.

Each accommodation provides breakfast and a packed lunch, while evening meals are plentiful and nourishing. Although mountain water in the region is often said to be drinkable, we’ve had instances where trekkers fell ill from untreated water. We strongly recommend bringing a personal water filtration system. Avoid buying bottled water whenever possible, all waste must be carried out of this environmentally sensitive area.

What’s Included on the Guided Trek

Breakfast, a packed lunch, and a two-course evening meal are included on all trekking days, with the exception of your first and last nights. For complete details, please refer to your specific trek itinerary.

Meals Overview

Breakfast

Typically includes cereal with milk or yoghurt, bread with butter and jam, scrambled eggs, and tea, coffee, or fruit juice.

Lunch

A substantial packed lunch is provided each day and generally consists of a sandwich, fruit, and a cereal bar.

Dinner

Evening meals are hearty and generally include two courses. Meat, fish, and vegetarian options are available, followed by dessert.

Hydration & Nutrition Tips

Hydration and proper nutrition are just as important as your physical fitness on the trail. Poor fuelling can lead to fatigue, dehydration, or altitude-related issues. Start each day well-hydrated, and carry at least 2 litres of water with you. A water filtration system is essential for safely refilling on the go.

If you're not used to eating on the move, we recommend testing different snacks and hydration routines during your training hikes to find what works best for you.

Drinks

Drinks are not included with evening meals. You’ll need to pay directly at each accommodation for any extras such as tea, soft drinks, or beer. We ask that you settle drink payments as you go, to avoid any additional charges at the end of your trek.
