A Breathtaking Route Through the Italian Alps

The Aosta Valley, set on the Italian side of the Mont Blanc massif, is one of the Alps’ most spectacular trekking regions, known for its wild high-mountain landscapes, traditional villages, and warm Italian hospitality. The Alta Via 1, also known as The Giants’ Trail, is dominated by an impressive line-up of iconic peaks that shape the journey, including Monte Rosa, the Matterhorn, the Grand Combin, and Mont Blanc.

This classic multi-day trek takes you on a spectacular journey through the heart of the Aosta Valley, combining high mountain passes, quiet Italian valleys, and welcoming refuges and villages along the way.

A point-to-point route from Gressoney-Saint-Jean to Courmayeur, the Alta Via 1 showcases some of the finest trekking terrain in the Italian Alps, with an accumulation of approximately 9,000 m (29,500 ft) of height gain and descent over 115km (72 miles). Expect dramatic scenery throughout, with unforgettable views of many of the Alps’ most iconic peaks.
