TMB Update 22 June 2026

22/06/2026

Following our trail inspections last week, we are pleased to report that conditions on the Tour du Mont Blanc have continued to improve significantly.

The recent spell of hot weather has accelerated snow melt across the higher passes and conditions are now considerably better than they were just ten days ago. Our first guided TMB group, led by Alex, is currently making excellent progress and has now reached La Fouly in Switzerland. Our second guided group begins their trek today.

While snow remains on some of the higher sections of the route, the overall trend is very positive and conditions continue to improve daily.

There are, however, a few important points that trekkers should keep in mind:

Snow Bridges

As the snowpack melts, snow bridges covering streams, river gullies and drainage channels can become increasingly unstable. In many cases, conditions become more dangerous before they improve, as meltwater creates hidden voids beneath the snow.

Take extra care when crossing any snow bridge and assess its stability carefully before committing to the crossing. If in doubt, look for an alternative route.

Remaining Snow Patches

Snow remains on some higher sections of the route, particularly on north-facing slopes and around some of the cols. Trekkers who are not confident walking on snow should continue to carry and use micro-spikes where appropriate. Even short sections of hard snow can be slippery, particularly during the morning.

Col des Fours and Fenêtre d'Arpette

The Col des Fours and Fenêtre d'Arpette variants are still not recommended at this time.

Although conditions are improving rapidly, both routes remain more serious undertakings than the standard Tour du Mont Blanc route and still contain significant snow on steep terrain. We recommend avoiding both variants for at least another week.

We will continue to monitor conditions closely and provide further updates as the remaining snow continues to melt.

Overall, conditions on the Tour du Mont Blanc are improving rapidly and we are optimistic that many of the remaining snow-covered sections will continue to diminish over the coming days if the current warm weather persists.
